4 Miraculous Overnight Face Masks + A New Super Indulgent Beauty Secret

Lazy girl beauty tips are really the best beauty tips. I love homemade beauty recipes, but truth be told I love-love the homemade recipes that use just 2 ingredients. No muss, no fuss. Who doesn’t crave a simple, effortless beauty routine that literally works miracles while you sleep. Nature has provided us with all we need to make that a reality. These 2-ingredient masks will have you waking up to a brand new you! Beauty sleep, y’all!!!

Lemon + Almond Oil Astringent

If dark circles are your issue this lemon + almond oil astringent is gonna be your new best friend. Just mix a few drops of lemon juice with a little bit of almond oil. Apply this mixture underneath your eyes before you go to bed and wake up to a visible difference.

Tomato + Honey

Vitamins and minerals galore! Tomatoes are the star of the show in this face mask. If you’ve struggled with large pores or acne or if you just want to rescue a dull complexion, you should give this a go. Chop up a slice of tomato and mash it up with a little bit of honey to form a paste. Apply this to your face before bed and wash it off in the morning. You may want to lay a towel over your pillow to prevent your bed linens from getting stained.

Oats + Honey

To give dry skin the boot, try this mask. This one is one of my all time favorites! It’s perfect for all skin types and is a go to combo for sensitive skin. Mix equal parts oats and honey into a thick paste. Apply evenly to your face before bed, massaging in circular motions. Wash it off in the morning to reveal skin that is soft and dewy to the touch! Again, you may want to lay a towel over your bed linens.

Coconut Oil + Tea Tree Oil

These oils combined are the holy grail of antiseptic blemish control! If your skin can tolerate coconut oil as a moisturizer (steer clear if you’re prone to acne and clogged pores), try mixing in a few drops of tea tree oil into a spoonful of coconut oil forming a semi-clear serum. Apply this all over your face and neck before bed and rinse off in the morning.

Super Indulgent Beauty Secret

Now for the part where we all start living the dream: how about your new beauty secret is eating chocolate!!! Thanks to the geniuses over at Sakara Life (yep, the same Sakara Life that does organic meal delivery) we can now nom nom on delicious dark chocolate on our way to beautiful skin. Beautiful skin from the outside in!

As Sakara Life co-founders Danielle Dubois and Whitney Tingle explain, “You can moisturize the top layer of skin with creams and serums, but the phytoceramides in Beauty Chocolates replenish the cell barrier and stimulate collagen from within, helping to seal in moisture, plump and smooth wrinkles, and boost your glow!” All that goodness is packaged in a delightful little chocolate that you can enjoy as a midnight snack. Best part is these babies are clinically proven to give you results in two weeks. Snack on chocolate for two weeks. Seriously?! Yes, please! My advice: whip up one of these simple overnight masks, pop a chocolate, and slip into the most extraordinary beauty rest of your life.

Homemade Granola With Extra Clusters

I have a love/hate relationship with granola. I love the taste. Real talk, I can eat granola on top of yogurt or fruit for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If I’m being completely honest, I really have done just that. But I absolutely do not love the price of store bought granola. It’s super expensive considering the price of the individual ingredients and how much granola those ingredients yield coupled with how easy it is to make. Most of all I ‘m not in love with the fact that as you make your way through a box or a bag of granola, all of the delicious granola clusters disappear and you’re left with half a bag of granola crumbs. Because I eat so much granola, I had to find a homemade recipe that didn’t skimp on the flavor, or the clusters. If you love granola clusters as much as I do, you must try this!

Homemade Granola

Makes 3 to 4 cups

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups (1/2 pound) old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup (2 ounces) whole, raw almonds
  • 1/2 cup (2 ounces) whole, raw cashews
  • 1/3 cup (2 ounces) light brown (or unrefined) sugar
  • zest of 1 small orange
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 3 ounces (6 tablespoons / 3/4 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup (2 ounces) maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Directions

  • Position a rack in the center of the oven and preheat to 325º F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Have a second rimmed baking sheet and piece of parchment ready.
  • Combine the oats, nuts, sugar, orange, cinnamon, and nutmeg together in a large bowl. In a small saucepan, melt together the butter, maple syrup and salt, stirring to dissolve the salt. Pour over the oat mixture, tossing to combine thoroughly.
  • Dump the mixture onto the lined baking sheet, and spread it into a thin sheet no thicker than an almond. Ideally, the edges will be slightly thicker than the center as they will bake faster. Lay the second piece of parchment over the granola, and place the second sheet pan on top, right-side up, making a little granola sandwich.
  • Slide the whole thing into the oven and bake for 20 minutes. Rotate and continue baking another 10 to 20 minutes, peeking under the parchment to make sure the edges aren’t burning, until the granola is a rich golden brown. It will still be soft, but will crisp up as it cools.
  • Let the granola cool completely in the sheet pan sandwich, then break up and store in an airtight container for up to a month (or possibly more). Enjoy over fruit and yogurt for breakfast, alone for a crunchy snack, or over ice cream for a decadent dessert.

I use this double baking sheet trick for a variety of granola flavor combinations like maple brown butter, rum-kissed coconut, or cardamom honey! The clusters do not disappoint!

Take Your Shower to Spa Heights: DIY Oatmeal Rose Face Mask and Homemade Eucalyptus Body Oil

Last night was one of those nights when you get home and you just want to let the horrendous day you just had melt away in a soothing oatmeal bath. I was pretty tired though, so I needed to find a way to capture that long bath soak feeling into a quick shower. I’ve been fooling around with oatmeal skin care recipes for a while now, and I absolutely love the silky smooth texture that oats give the skin. I was feeling drained and sluggish, and the malaise of the day was definitely showing on my tired skin.

Because these oatmeal eucalyptus bath salts is one of my absolute favorite pampering recipes, I decided to whip up an oatmeal mask to use in the shower. I found exactly what I was looking for while drooling over Lauren Conrad’s incredible DIYs. These recipes are just what the doctor ordered!  Instead of using eucalyptus in the oatmeal mask, this recipe calls for a little rose water. Rose water revitalizes and moisturizes the skin, all while helping to improve the appearance of scars, and giving the skin a healthy glow. As much as I love rose water, I didn’t want to cheat myself out of the relaxing effect of eucalyptus. I followed up the oatmeal mask with a soothing eucalyptus body oil, and let me tell you! I felt amazingly calm. Long story short: if you’re dog tired but still in need of a luxurious, I-just-bathed-in-royal-splendor kinda feeling take these recipes and create your own spa shower tonight!
