Dream Travel Destination

Is there one place in the world that you’ve always wanted to visit? My sister has always wanted to go to Greece. My father has always wanted to go to Sweden. My mother has always wanted to go to England (she finally went for the first time last year). I’ve always wanted to go to Australia. In honor of Australia Day, I thought I would share with you a quick post on my crazy obsession with Australia.

Australia

I’m a native New Yorker. I grew up in Bedford Stuyvesant, a neighborhood in Brooklyn. My family traveled around the country every summer, but we never went overseas. My obsession with Australia started when I was a kid. Mommy got me a world atlas from the main branch of the Brooklyn Public Library on Eastern Parkway. I would sit and look at the Australian map for hours. No joke. I have no idea why I became so attracted to the place, but this infatuation has stood the test of time. To this day, I listen to Australian radio stations like Triple J, I watch Australian television shows and movies, and with the help of Google Earth, I look up street views of different cities around Australia. Totally weird, I suppose, but I can’t help myself. I’ve never been and I’ve only met a handful of Australians in my life, but I often dream of the day that I’ll have the time and the money to take this trip.

I’m super curious about where all of you have always dreamt of going. Let me know in the comments where you grew up, and where your dream destination is. I’m seriously dying to know! I always wonder if there’s a link between where we grew up and where we want to go.
