This Victorian Mansion’s Modern Makeover is Perfection

This, my friends, is home design goals. A perfect blend of modern and traditional that comes through as effortless and purposeful. I am absolutely obsessed with this space! Interior designer Jodi Morton, founder of 2to5design has created a space that is not only modern, but stays true to the Victorian architecture of this traditionally, elegant home. I just love it when a designer manages to reimagine the function of a home without destroying the character. Seriously, the dining room and the kitchen alone are enough to make me fall in love. Design Inspiration: Southwest Modern

Southwest modern is the next swoon-worthy design style to inspire your next home makeover!

Think of it as the happy marriage of Scandi style and Bohemian style… plus a cactus… because, well, in this life, everybody needs a cactus. Scandinavian minimalism and Boho maximalism have been competing for our affection for some time now. While Scandinavian style favors simplicity and function, Bohemian style lends itself to a more eclectic, curated design approach. Southwest modern merges the two design styles in a way that makes everyone happy. Cozy, just like we saw in this Hygge centered Scandi design, without being too busy. Rustic, just like we saw in the relaxed Boho home of Julianne Hough, without being too shabby. Curated without looking too staged. Gender neutral. Oh, and did I mention the cactus?

The best part about Southwest modern is that you don’t have to overhaul your entire home to achieve the look. Playing with texture, Northwood Supply Co. (your new favorite Etsy shop), shows us how simple touches like wall art, a cool rug, and some throw pillows can transform your space. Kacy, the artist behind Northwood Supply Co. has an Instagram feed that you should totally be following. Don’t believe me? Check out these beautiful photos that are sure to spark your new design obsession!

These Open Shelf Kitchen Designs Will Forever Silence Your Inner Hoarder

Ditch those upper cabinets! These open shelf kitchen designs will inspire your next kitchen update.

Can we be honest? Upper cabinets are the giant tombstones in a kitchen graveyard filled with unused dishes, useless appliances, and forgotten cans of food you never liked in the first place. Alright, I’m being dramatic, but I used to always find myself fishing around in those upper cabinets and wading through a bunch of stuff that I should’ve thrown away, but instead tucked away. I took the open shelf plunge over ten years ago, and it totally changed the way I relate to kitchens, grocery shopping, and cooking. Open shelves brighten up an otherwise dark kitchen. You can actually see what you use and use what you see. Nothing more. Nothing less. Still not convinced that open shelves are life? Check out these kitchens and prepare to change your mind!
