I keep the window open in my bathroom pretty much all through winter. I can’t really give you a valid reason why. I will say that I find the constant circulation of cold air invigorating. Long, hot baths seem just a little bit more satisfying. I also find that the more my bathroom resembles an apothecary with all the DIY beauty recipes I make, the bathroom stays cold enough so I can go ahead and just store these homemade masks and scrubs right on the bathroom shelves.
Cold bathrooms aren’t for everyone, I know, but I’ve yet to meet the person that doesn’t enjoy the occasional soak in the tub. Last night, after a particularly difficult yoga routine, I was in dire need of a relaxing soak. The total utilitarian side of me poured about one and a half cups of Epsom salt into my bath water. However, the decidedly girly girl, hedonist side of me just had to add a little sugar to that spice. This Sugar Clove Body Scrub was just what the doctor ordered. Gentle exfoliation with an amazing seasonal fragrance. Heaven.
Homemade Winter Sugar and Clove Body Scrub

- 1/2c jojoba, almond, or olive oil
- 3-4 drops clove essential oil
- combine all ingredients in a glass jar
- apply all over, paying special attention to rough areas like elbows and knees
- store leftovers in your cold bathroom 😉
***For a citrus-y spin on this recipe, try adding a teaspoon of orange zest to the mix.
