I can’t stop myself from smearing food on my face. Maybe I’m stuck in some bizarre Freudian stage and I just can’t help myself. You’d have to ask my mother. I think the more likely reason is that I’m on to something here. Natural beauty alchemy is a science, y’all. I’m all about face masks and spa days at home. The same benefits you get from those extraordinarily overpriced spa treatments can be achieved with basic items in your pantry.

My new obsession is matcha green tea powder. The antioxidant goodness of green tea in powdered form makes it the perfect ingredient to whip up in your favorite facial mask. I find that my skin craves different things depending on the season. Winter makes my skin super thirsty. I can’t seem to get enough moisturizer when temperatures get low. Summer, on the other hand, has my skin in a state of constant greasy, sheen. You know that super oily look that’s just not cute at all. Sigh. It’s important to adapt your skin care routine to your environment. So in the spirit of adaptation, these two recipes are my go to seasonal face masks.
