2 Yogis You Need to Follow on Instagram

2 Yogis You NEED to Follow on Instagram

I made a promise to myself at the beginning of this year that I would do yoga, no matter what, every single day. I’m proud to report that 11 months later, I’ve actually stayed true to that promise. I can’t say that it hasn’t been difficult. I had to overcome some stumbling blocks along the way. I had a pretty bad cold earlier in the year, I traveled quite a bit, and other times I was just plain exhausted. Even still, I managed to squeeze in at least 15 minutes to an hour of yoga everyday and I’m so glad that I did!

From time to time I need a little motivation. It just takes a little bit of inspiration to spark a fire in you that burns bright and makes you not ever want to quit. I turn to Instagram in my moments of weakness (don’t judge me) and I swoon over the incredible yogis that decorate my feed. Yeah. Sometimes it’s like that for sure. I don’t know which one I love more, but Christine Hewitt and Soren Buchanan are probably my top 2/number 1 favorites.

These ladies definitely find the right balance (no pun intended) between physical fitness and showcasing the human body as an organic piece of art. I’m way into the colors and movement captured by these photos and their feeds never cease to motivate me. So if you need a little bit of inspo, just check out some of these incredible photos and join the movement. #yogaeverydamnday

20 Things Every Woman Should Have in Her Purse and How to Keep Them Organized

Purse Essentials

I love being prepared when I’m on the go. The contents of my purse are proof of that. The solution to all of life’s mini emergencies are hanging right on my shoulder. I can reach in and find the answer at a moment’s notice. No more rummaging, just quick and easy on-the-go solutions.

The Purse

Organized Purse

I swear by Baggallini bags! They are absolutely perfect. They’re affordable, they’re durable, and they’re totally adorable! You see what I did there?

If you’re looking for something on the larger side, check out this tote.

If you’re trying to scale down, checkout this cross-body.

Cosmetic bags for Organization

Cosmetic Bag

I like to separate the contents of my purse into categories. I use cosmetic bags because you can find them in different colors making it super easy to organize your stuff and find it quickly. The categories are up to you, but since I’ve been doing this awhile, I separate the items based on frequency of use.

What’s in My Purse

No joke, this is actually what I carry in my purse everyday. I have used ALL of these things at one time or another and can honestly say I was so happy that I had them at the ready. I’ve also bailed my friends out with a few of these items from time to time! Don’t worry. All of the items come in convenient travel packs, or are small enough on their own, so you don’t have to carry around a suitcase everyday!

  • facial tissue
  • hand sanitizer
  • wet ones
  • mini first aid kit- find it here
  • lip gloss
  • perfume- find my favorite here
  • breath mints/gum
  • floss
  • phone charger/extra battery
  • headphones
  • tampons/ pads
  • nail clipper/ emery board
  • lotion
  • small deodorant (great to have for those extra long days)
  • safety pins
  • medication (Aleve, Dramamine, Claritin, and cough drops)
  • herbal tea bag (don’t judge me! I love hot tea, and if I have access to hot water I want organic, herbal tea)
  • hair ties/ bobby pins
  • snack (granola bar or green superfood powdered supplement)
  • extra cash (a lady should always have cash on hand for an emergency cab ride, or if her debit card is suddenly demagnetized!)

So what’s in your purse? I just know I’m missing something!

Rise and shine: the daily routines of history’s most creative minds | Science | The Guardian

I’ve been trying to figure out what routine works best for me when it comes to achieving my goals. I am, if nothing else, a creature of habit. I’ve come across some pretty good tips in my search that I’ll share with you after I’ve tested them out 🙂 I also came across the following post and I thought it was a pretty funny read. It reveals some of the quirks of recent history’s most influential thinkers and artists.

[Disregard the substance abuse suggestion. That’s never a laughing matter. ***Bailey cares]

Benjamin Franklin spent his mornings naked. Patricia Highsmith ate only bacon and eggs. The path to greatness is paved with a thousand tiny rituals (and a fair bit of substance abuse) – but six key rules emerge, says Oliver Burkeman

5 New Year’s Resolutions that Everyone Can Make

New Year

Happy New Year, everyone! I’m super happy that last year is over. I had a pretty crappy twelve months, and I’m so ready to usher in this new year with hope and happiness. Last year I got laid off, my home was burglarized, and I lost a good friend far too soon. Needless to say, I’m ready for new beginnings.

On top of all the other things going on in my life, the holiday season has left me feeling full and weighed down. I’ve been feeling totally tired and drained lately. I usually don’t make New Year’s Resolutions because I always set some super specific goal and then I tend to give up a week in. This time around, I’m setting some pretty general goals that I thought I should share with you. I think they’ll apply to all of us and we can totally support each other over the coming months.

New Year’s Goals

Relax

1 Stress Less

Take some time to relax. We all have hectic schedules and a host of things that demand our time and attention. Even if you can only squeeze in a few minutes here and there, slow down and relax. Breathe in and breathe out, have some tea, meditate, light a candle, or just listen to your favorite song. Anything that allows your mind to quiet down and be calm.

Don't Give up

2 Don’t Give Up

Change is constant. We make plans to reach our goals, and if these plans fall through we feel guilty and give up hope. We all have to allow for the occasional hiccup. Whatever personal goals you set, remember the bigger picture. If you fail to achieve your goal one day, remember that there are 364 more days for you to succeed. Tomorrow starts now.

Healthy Body

3 Healthier Body

Every year, I always promise myself that I’m going to get healthier. I make a plan to go to the gym, to completely overhaul my diet, to treat myself to frequent spa days, and to be asleep by 9pm. Who am I fooling? I’m really good about it for the first week. Sometimes I even make it a month, but seriously, I don’t know anyone who can keep that up. This year, I’ve decided not to set myself up for failure. My goals for a healthier body are more flexible this time around. There are a ton of little changes we can make that have huge payoffs in the long run.

Learn Something New

4 Healthier Mind

You guys, I spend a lot of time staring at my phone, watching TV, or surfing the web. I think if I added up the actual time, I’d be too ashamed of myself to even tell you. So, I’ve decided to unplug more often. We all need to take the time to learn something new, create something, or even just read a book the old fashioned way. Exercise our minds.

Home is Where Your Heart Is

5 Healthier Home

I’m always looking for ways to improve the space that I’m in. Whether it’s slapping on a fresh coat of paint, rearranging furniture, decorating for holidays, or just thoroughly de-cluttering, organizing, and cleaning a space, there are always projects to improve your physical environment, and in turn, your state of mind. After all, home is where your heart is. This year is all about seeing each and every space in my home through new and creative eyes.

It’s such an exciting time of year! A fresh start for all of us. Hopefully, we’ll get to know each other better and we’ll be able to support each other through this journey. I hope you’ll share some of your resolutions with me in the comments, and check in from time to time.

Here’s to new beginnings!
